Leadership Influences and Resources

I have a lot of leadership influences, some people, others are leadership models that I have learned about.

-Feminist Leadership-See introduction for details.

-The Social Change Model of Leadership-This model is centered around leadership as a process for people who want to make social change. It uses 7 values of leadership that manifest themselves within the individual, group and society. This model has been a big influence for me because it shows us that we can be leaders without positions, is not hierarchical, values the unique contribution of group members, celebrates differences in the community and is rooted in making social progress. Check out this great resource that explains the SCM.

-The Women's Center-Because the center and the staff taught me that in leadership you can make the most progress if you have unconditional positive regard for people. I love the Women's Center!

-Richard DeShields-Richard was my RHA advisor in college. He is one of the reasons that I am in the profession. He taught me that you can still support people and kick their butt (metaphorically) when they need it. He really challenged me and made me a more conscious leader.

-Juana Bordas-Juana came to speak to us during the Women and Leadership class. Her book and talk really made me discover to a greater extent how different cultures can influence leadership practices in a positive way so that leadership can be more inclusive. Check out her book Salsa, Soul and Spirit:Leadership for a multicultural age.

Here are some great resources from one of my biggest influences, the internet (because I love to learn):

National Clearinghouse for Leadership Programs: Here you can find lots of resources on Leadership especially used for developing leadership programs.

ASK TIM-Tim McMahon one of my professors and one of the author of the famous leadership book. Tim has been one of my influences, he was great at giving feedback and helping me to chew through a lot of my questions on my leadership journey.

-Delicious: A great cite that you can use to gather internet resources, here is my "flat leadership models" links that I put together. I would encourage you to make your own!

Please feel free to post your influences and resources here to help inspire others!
